Christmas is almost here! Eight more days, I’m so excited! We have just finished celebrating Hanukkah and now we get ready for the man in the big red suit. It’s definitely different, having summer Christmas but we’re handling it, the kids better than me. I’m ready to be back in the northern hemisphere, it just doesn’t feel like Christmas to me. Like I said in an earlier post, I knew it would be like this but I wanted to try it out. Well, I’m glad I did and I can assure you this will be our first and last tropical Christmas. At least we’ll have some interesting Christmas photos!
Because we are travelling, this will be the first year I haven’t gone completely overboard. I always felt so overwhelmed seeing all of those toys under the tree on the 26th and having no idea where I was going to put them all. Never mind the fact that most of them won’t be given a second look by New Years. This year, Santa is only bringing 2 things, and I’m giving them each 3 small things. So Christmas will be very small this time around but I think it will be all the better for it. The kids will be able to appreciate those few gifts and they will certainly be played with. I’m actually looking forward to it whereas a week ago, I was feeling like an awful mama for not giving them a huge Christmas.
I think they’ll be thrilled with their Christmas and won’t even notice it’s not as overdone as last year, or the year before that, or the year….. Kids are amazing like that. I mean think about it, how many kids out there have had hours of entertainment from a cardboard box. Come to think of it, maybe a few cardboard boxes would have been a better idea!
